Image Editing
In light of the news of Adobe buying Macromedia and the upcoming release of Tiger, the recent announcement of Stone Design’s iMaginator has me hopeful.
I don’t necessarily place much faith in Stone Design’s ability to create an elegant user interface (especially after seeing their web site), but what it does mean is that other people may be trying similar things. I want an image editor that makes use of Core Image, has a good user interface, and is priced for regular Joe consumers. Stone Design’s announcement can only mean that others will be trying to create similar things. I hope this is the case.
One possibility is that the new Adobe could retool some of Macromedia’s software as consumer-level and take advantage of Core Image and the other Mac OS X technologies they’ve been neglecting. Not likely, but with real competition it could happen. I wish all of the developers out there looking to oust Photoshop at the consumer level good luck!
Something strange I came across lately: paint.NET.
