Getting iChat to support xmpp:
Robert Quattlebaum has posted a little app which makes iChat support the xmpp: URI scheme! That means that you will be able to click links like xmpp:julian@jabber.org and iChat will pop up a new Jabber message window to me. Pretty cool!
One of the ramifications of this support is that you can put together a list of bookmarks to group chat rooms, which is a handy feature: jdev and jabber are the two main group chat rooms on jabber.org.
And why not add group chats to the roster? And sign you on on it every time you are on-line, and send a ping message to you the moment someone writes your name on the group chats…
I just dropped to say that Gajim (gajim.org) svn does it also
This works with iChat. I know there are other clients that support
xmpp:. That’s not the point. The point is that this is a little third party application which gets iChat to support something which is useful.Miguel, I’m not sure how you could add something like that without either actually having iChat’s source code or actually changing thing at the server level. Both are things which are not happening.
xmpp:links are useful beyond just bookmarking group chat rooms, but that’s the most immediate use for me.i have macos x version 10.4.5
