Ordered a new digital camera
I ordered the Panasonic DMC-FX9, but apparently it’s on back order and they’re claiming it will be shipped sometime in November. Sigh. I hope it comes sooner than that!

I can’t wait to take photos in 16:9 and to have a camera where I can actually see the correct bounds of what will and will not be in the photo.
I have the FX7, and have absolutely adored it. One of the best digital camera’s I’ve had, small or large. I’ve particularly appreciated its low light performance.
I haven’t paid attention to Panasonic cameras before; I’ve been leaning toward a Canon (PowerShot SD300, probably) for my hypothetical next camera. But the one you bought does look nice — I’d love to have image stabilization! I can’t find any reviews of that model, though. Is it brand new?
(Never mind, I found some reviews! Nice camera, if a bit above my price range.)
Jens, yeah, even DPReview has a review up. I didn’t think the price was too bad for what it is.
Buzz, that’s good to hear. That’s what I’m looking for. DPReview said the only issue with the FX7 was low battery life. Supposedly the FX9 fixes that and is slightly better in other ways.
I was seriously considering an FX7 a while ago, but with all the fixes in the FX9 I jumped on that.
16:9 eh? That would be pretty sharp. I’ve never looked at Panasonics either, but I’ve heard great things about the lens on this series. I’ll have to read the review…
It came already. :) :) :)

I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 (by $400), it may look like just another ultra-compact camera, but it’s more than that. :) This camera actually has an optical image stabilizer inside the lens, which helps reduce the effects of “camera shake”. The FX9 and its siblings plus the new Konica Minolta DiMAGE X1 are the only compact cameras on the market with this very useful feature. Other nice things about the FX9 include its 6 Megapixel CCD, large 2.5″ LCD display, AF-assist lamp, and VGA movie mode. So… cool :)
