Is it just me, or does Microsoft always proclaim near the end of a product’s development “This isn’t the final theme!”? You’d think people beta testing the software would get it by now. (Of course, sometimes Microsoft ships a theme which is only a slight variant of the current one, though I doubt that will be the case with Office 12).

Mythbusters: The Office 12 New UI

According to Jensen Harris, Microsoft’s lead user experience program manager for Office, the UI theme shown in all existing screenshots of Office 12 is not the theme they intend to ship. I don’t care what the final theme looks like, though, I still think the new “ribbon” is cluttered.
