This assignment was called "Expression & Physical Interaction." The idea was to create a physical or digital (or hybrid) device for scheduling which has the ease of use of physical devices but the advantages of a digital device. We started out by creating "mood boards" for vision, hearing, touch, movement, pose, place, and facial expression. My mood boards took a cold, scientific (cognitive science) look at the topics.
From there we created taxonomies of physical objects. My investigation of the level made me think about the universal display properties of fluid—which brought me to the idea of a fountain pen. The Level taxonomy (mounted on black) appears below:
The fountain pen/ink idea was fleshed out in the concept of scheduling. That brings us to Time Ink. It can be used on hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly calendars—you can have one on your desk or bring a portable one with you. You squeeze out ink to schedule an event. Rescheduling an event or removing an event is simply sucking up this magical, digital ink.
